Wander through Zarka
Charming and lively with all the amenities you need for a comfortable holiday. From local markets and bakeries to cafés, tavernas, and a welcoming village square.
Just a 2-minute drive from To Rodi lies Zarka village, nestled on the narrowest spot of Evia! Take a detour off the main highway heading to the south of the island to find this vibrant village where you can delve into local life and find traces of its past in the architecture and traditions that live on.
Strolling around Zarka gives you a taste of an authentic Greek village with its gentle pace of life, but also its vibrancy that comes alive particularly during balmy summer evenings, when cafe and taverna tables spill out onto the street and the primary school playground becomes the hot spot for village children.
Head down one of the narrow side streets and you’re likely to reach the old neighbourhood, Mahalas, situated within a quiet valley surrounded by a dramatic rolling landscape. Here you’ll find a glimpse of the past; many abandoned but also restored traditional stone-built houses with slate roofs.
A stroll through this scenic route may lead to a longer rambling walk that ends at Paralia Zarakon (Zarka beach or Fourniakos as the locals call it).
Finally, the yearly summer festival takes place on every August. Here, you can eat, drink and dance to Greek folklore songs until the early hours of the next day! Join this festival (or one of the many others that take place over the summer in nearby villages) to mingle with the locals and experience true Greece!
